The holiday period, during which the rest of the world’s attention is frequently distracted, is often a dangerous time for those opposed to the government in Egypt.
The last part of 2016 has not brought much positive news on justice and accountability across Africa. No less that three States — Burundi, South Africa and Gambia — announced they were withdrawing from the International Criminal Court.
In March of this year, Rwanda announced that it was withdrawing from the mechanism allowing individuals and NGOs direct access to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
